FABRIQ architecture was chosen to design a new 6-storey multi-purpose building for the gay & lesbian community in downtown Montreal. FABRIQ’s curvaceous design proposal won the favour of the jury in a call for proposals organised by the Fondation Mario-Racine. The complex, planned for 2005, was intended to house a variety of community and cultural spaces including a library, a cinema, offices and a conference centre. Centrally located in Montreal’s Gay Village, the building is a symbol of pride for the community. Prior to construction phase, the project site was changed and FABRIQ was called upon for a 2nd design, which entailed the renovation of 6 floors in the neighbouring Amherst Building, adjacent to the Olympia Theatre.
