The Gourmet Complex is a unique and refined building that is ambitious and creative in its architectural intentions, thus contributing to the architectural and cultural spirit of the Molewa project. It responds admirably to the main design challenges raised by a large urban dining complex: the relationship to adjacent streets, simple and intuitive access to the various facilities, varied and unique spatial experiences for each of the various establishments, and an enticing dining environment. In order to reconcile its role in the urban streetscape with the desire for intimate dining areas, the Gourmet Complex projects two contrasting faces – a strong city presence to the street and a soft, organic one to a courtyard paradise. This strategy also reflects traditional Chinese architecture like the sìhéyuàn, where the house faces an inner courtyard. |
